Lobby Day in Sacramento, February 17, 2009
On Lobby Day, two members of our steering committee visited the offices of state legislators in a large-scale lobbying effort organized by Equality California. The purpose was to urge support for resolutions pending in both the Assembly and the Senate urging the state Supreme Court to overturn Prop. 8 on the basis that it used an inappropriate method to revise the state Constitution, going beyond a mere amendment. Our members also attended the Assembly Judiciary Committee hearing on the legislation. A very positive outcome was that Assemblyman Paul Fong, representing Cupertino, Sunnyvale, and Mountain View, agreed to co-sponsor the legislation during the visit and asked to have a working relationship with MESV.
