First, there is an article in the San José Mercury News (http://www.mercurynews.com/topstories/ci_13047117?nclick_check=1) keeping attention focused on the fight for marriage equality, and featuring local reaction to Equality California's announcement that it considers 2012, rather than 2010, the better option for repealing Prop. 8 by ballot initiative.

Next, there will be a kiss-in at San José City Hall at 200 East Santa Clara Street from 10:30 to 11:30 AM on Saturday, August 15. This event is part of a nationwide effort to bring attention to the fact that anyone is entitled to, and should feel safe, showing affection to the person he or she loves, anywhere in the world, and at any time. The Facebook page for the local event can be found at http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=135024051631&ref=mf, and the national website is http://www.GreatNationalKissIn.com.

Here's a great opportunity to meet a United States Senator, and demonstrate your support for marriage equality by wearing appropriate attire, buttons and pins. Senator Barbara Boxer (D-CA) will be signing her new book, "Blind Trust," at 1:00 PM Saturday, August 15, at the Barnes & Noble Bookstore, 3600 Stevens Creek Blvd., San José. For ideas of what to wear, check out our merchandise on Cafe Press at http://www.cafepress.com/MESV.

Speaking of merchandise, Marriage Equality Silicon Valley has a new T-shirt available. This shirt features the bold, positive, and attention-grabbing statement, "It's not IF, it's WHEN," and three couples (two same-sex and one opposite-sex). Test runs by some of our MESV coordinators have proven that the new shirts are great conversation starters! Order yours today at http://www.cafepress.com/MESV.

Finally, we must remember that California is not the only hot battleground in the war over marriage equality. Our friends in Maine, who recently won the right to marry the one they love regardless of gender, are being challenged by a new ballot initiative which, if passed, would immediately take away that right. The Courage Campaign has organized phonebanking efforts to help our friends out on the East Coast. You are invited to participate in these events. Locate the event closest to you by visiting the Courage Campaign's website at http://couragecampaign.org, click on the "Events" link, and enter your zip code.
