Dear Friends,
The Day of Decision on Prop. 8 is fast approaching. Although we don't know exactly when the California Supreme Court will make its ruling, it must be no later than June 3. Rumor is that the decision is right around the corner, and we need to be prepared for whatever news it may bring, good or bad.
On the day that the court announces its ruling, no matter what the decision is, we will gather at 6:00 P.M. at the Plaza de César Chávez, Market Street at Park Avenue, in downtown San José. Whether in jubilation or in sorrow, we will then march, at 6:30, to the San José City Hall, 200 East Santa Clara Street. Feel free to bring any signs you think appropriate for the mood of the day, and as usual, bring your friends too.
The court's decision, however it may turn out, is just one battle in changing hearts and minds about marriage equality, and our work will not stop there. Stay tuned to marriageequalitysiliconvalley.org for details about other upcoming events.
Also, there will be a rally in downtown Fresno, California, on the Saturday following the date of the court's decision. Titled "Meet in the Middle for Equality," this event is designed to bring the debate to those communities where we have the most work to do in helping folks understand why marriage equality is a vital civil rights issue. Fresno County, like other counties in the Central Valley and in Southern California, passed Proposition 8 by a large margin, and we cannot hope to win the battle in California without more support from the state's "heartland." For more information, go to www.meetinthemiddle4equality.com, or look it up on Facebook.
And remember to check marriageequalitysiliconvalley.org for the latest information about local marriage equality events.
Let's keep up the good fight together.
